When I think about love, I see myself someday loving a woman.

"An Australian size 28 (120cm underbust … technically they make up 0.002% of the global population) is very unlikely to ever be purchasing swimwear and certainly not dancewear (keep in mind what this site is about) … even the majority of plus size swimwear shops stop at a size 24 (and even those are rarely in stock, or only ordered on request). Indeed I strongly suggest retailers do not carry plus size swimwear (over a size 18) because I think these women are best fitted custom made due to the variation in shape. Also it’s not (well rarely) commercially viable for an independant retailer not carry such sizes."

Stuart of patternschool.com (now defunct it seems) on this post about custom bra blocks.

IT’S NOT LIKE FAT PEOPLE WANT TO DANCE OR SWIM.

IT’S NOT LIKE EVERY FAT PERSON CAN AFFORD CUSTOM MADE GARMENTS.

THIS DUDE CAN SUCK A GIANT FUCK.

And so here we have the crux of the #fatshionista crisis in a nutshell. It’s assumed people my size don’t exercise, because of prejudiced assholes like this. So when we DO want to work out, ya know, like anyone else in the Western world, we can’t find appropriate gear. And then the most tenacious of us go for it ANYWAY, wearing whatever ill-fitting shabby threads we can find. And so we get stared at (at best) or openly ridiculed (quite common) or even harassed (more common than you will ever know). It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy when people my size stop being active — we’re damned if we do and damned if we don’t. But please…tell me again how society is CONCERNED ABOUT OUR HEALTH.

^^

(via fancybidet) 0.002% is probably also the population size that buys Yachts that can house and freight more than 20 people, yet they get made with great efforts and marketed vigorously.

Wanted & Found helps you find plus size clothing.

I’m really tired of how challenging it is to find the clothing I want, so I’m trying to build a site that makes it easier. Now that I’ve got some of the major parts set up, I want to start letting some folks in to see what I’ve got going so far:

  • An ever-growing list of shops that sell plus sizes, with filters that help you narrow your search. Only looking for tights? Need to stick to a budget? Want to see your online vs in-store options? Let’s make it as easy as possible for you.
  • A size chart calculator for 20+ brands that shows what size(s) your bust, waist, and hip measurements correspond to, stored for easy reference whenever you need it.
  • A Google Map of the stores near you that carry plus sizes, complete with store hours for maximum convenience.
  • A collection of plus size items gathered from popular online shops, all in one place where you can save your favorites and make items you hate go invisible — the aim is that you only see what you want to see.

If this would make your life easier, request an invitation!

I’m keeping the site invite-only for now while I fix bugs that crop up and see how stable it is when more folks are using it :) Questions? Feedback? Email contact@wantedandfound.com or just submit an ask through this Tumblr!

Right this minute, there is someone going through chemotherapy shopping at your grocery store, buying popsicles and ice cream to help their sore mouth, and worrying what the cashier is going to think.

There is someone on hemodialysis buying white bread instead of whole wheat, trying to keep their phosphorus levels reasonable between appointments and hoping for the best.

There is a person attending intensive outpatient treatment for their eating disorder who has been challenged by their therapist to buy a Frappuccino.

There are dietitians picking up a dozen different candy bars to eat with their clients, who feel ashamed and guilty about enjoying them.

There is someone who just doesn’t have it in them to cook right now, and this frozen pizza and canned soup will keep them going.

There are people recovering from chronic dieting and semi-starvation who are buying chocolate and chips at their deprived body’s insistence.

All around us are people listening to what their bodies need and attempting to make the best possible choice within a context of overwhelming food pressure. All of their choices are valid, and every single one of these foods is “real.”

When I complain about the struggles and stigma I face as a fat woman, I am NOT saying, “I wish I was thinner so these things wouldn’t happen.”

I’m saying, “I wish I was seen as a person so these things wouldn’t happen.”
